Perks as Life

September 28, 2008

SO, SINCE ITS RELEASE last week, I’ve been delving into the launch videos surrounding Adobe’s Creative Suite 4. The conscious effort by Adobe to change its workflow ideas to fit the changing, integrated, interactive landscape of the media production industry was actually quite impressive. I was half expecting a half-assed dot release rushed out to scoop up the remaining dollars in a failing economy.

I’m pretty excited to get my hands on a copy of the new Web+Design suite. The design-centric box art is beautiful, which is great, since I’ll be staring at the box on my dresser for the next month-and-a-half.

See, I left my job as the Multimedia Editor of a business magazine at a major local publishing company a few weeks ago to pursue some of my personal entrepreneurial ventures. Just as my checking account is ready to cough out his last dollar, I need to return this ridiculously-loaded MacBook Pro and all of its peripherals to my ex-company. Not to mention my health insurance, life insurance, gym membership and monthly bus passes. I’ll miss the perks.

Even though I’m no longer encumbered by work, my days are still consumed by working on my business startups (thank you, economy, for crapping on my timing). But, until I turn a sizable profit, I’ll be hanging on freelance journalist jobs to pay the rent(s) and maybe working a deadbeat job where I can work on my { non-existant } laptop while sitting in a midnight security desk or on an Internet help line.

O magic laptop, materialize from the beautiful box. Spring to life from your imaginary world, and bring with you your friends: health insurance and bus pass.
